Handle claim (pet)
Purpose description
We process your personal data, including information about the animal(s), in order to handle your claims for compensation in the event of animal injury/illness claims, assess the animal injury/illness claim, verify that your claim is legitimate, pay compensation and use our right of recourse and claim compensation from the party responsible.
What information is processed and how?
In order to know who you are, manage your claims and be able to contact you, we process your name and personal identity number as well as contact details such as address, telephone number and e-mail address.
In order to assess the right to compensation, we prepare a claim with a claim number. We collect generic insurance information, such as which insurance the claims refer to and who is the policyholder, policy number, injured party and possible cause of injury/illness as well as information about the injury/illness, such as time, description of the course of the injury/illness, type of injury/illness claim as well as documentation of the injury/illness such as image and video material, visit specification from a veterinarian (diagnosis and the veterinarian's information), invoices, medical records that include information such as examination results/diagnosis/treatment plan, police report and veterinary certificate together with other information that you provide in your claim. We may also collect medical records directly from the veterinary clinic.
If your animal(s), such as a dog, cat or horse, has been injured or has become ill, you must provide information about the animal(s), such as animal type, date of birth, sex, name, chip number, ID number, registration number and breed.
Our veterinarians make their own veterinary assessments based on the documents we receive in connection with the claim. In some cases, we also need to inspect the injured animal(s) in order to be able to make a decision on the right to compensation and which form of compensation is most appropriate. We may bring in external veterinarians for independent medical assessment where appropriate.
We may also process other information about your insurance commitment with us, for example other insurances, treatment and claims history.
When settling claims where a third party/other party is involved or if the insurance case arose as a result of a crime, we may need to collect information from preliminary investigation reports from the An Garda Síochána or judgements that we collect from the An Garda Síochána directly in order to be able to make an assessment of your claim for compensation.
In the event of an injury/illness abroad which requires on-site care and/or medical transport home, we collect information about you and your animal(s)’ injury/illness from you.
If we suspect irregularities in a claims settlement case, we will prepare an investigation case for the purpose of investigating unclear insurance cases.
Before we can pay you any compensation, we check – through an information provider – that you are not on any of the Irish and international sanctions lists that we are obliged to comply with, as we are not permitted to pay you compensation if you are listed there.
When we pay compensation to you, we process information about your bank account number, amount of compensation and receiving bank.
We may also process information about you and you animal’s injury/illness in order to be able to use our right of recourse and claim compensation from the party responsible or in connection with committee proceedings and court hearings.

The processing of any data on the animal's health and violations of the law is necessary to establish, exercise and defend legal claims. We process your personal identity number in order to be able to identify the people involved.

When you report an animal injury/illness via the claim form on our website, we use so-called automated decision-making to assess simpler insurance cases, for example a bite injury or diagnoses such as laminitis, itching, colic, wounds and ear infection. The automated decision is based on the information in your claim form, your customer engagement with us, number of previously reported claims and the compensation claimed and is then assessed in accordance with the insurance terms and conditions. The decision is necessary in order to fulfil our agreement. If you receive such a decision, you have the opportunity to contact Agria to express your opinion or contest the decision.
Your rights according to the GDPR

If you want to insure your animal or animals, we process information about animals such as date of birth, name, breed, sex, animal species, registration number, ID number, registration certificate for pedigree and the animal's area of use as breeding, companionship or competition. If you state that your animal or animals have been treated for injury or illness in the past, we may retrieve information such as medical records from clinics/veterinarians where the treatment took place.
In some cases, a veterinarian or surveyor will need to inspect your animal(s) or crop/crops so that we can get more information and be able to give you a quotation.
To determine the premium you should pay, we compare your data with statistics on the probability and cost (risk) of a claim.
We then draw up a quote or an insurance agreement which - in addition to the information mentioned above - contains information such as customer number, policy number, insurance type, insurance period, deductible, sum insured, any discounts and annual premium.
Before we enter into an agreement with you and on an ongoing basis during the agreement period, we check – via an information provider – that you are not on any of the Irish and international sanctions lists that we are obliged to use. We may not enter into a contract with you if you are on such a list.
We process information about your invoices and payments on an ongoing basis during the agreement period. If you choose to pay by direct debit, we also process your bank account number.
