How to make a claim for your horse

Find out the simplest way to make an equine claim with Agria.

What you’ll need to make an equine claim

Providing all the relevant information could speed up the processing of your claim. You will need to provide:

If you are claiming for the first time, we will require some additional details about your horse (section one of claim form) and clinical history from any veterinary practice you have attended with your horse.

Pre-Authorisation
If your Horse needs an MRI or a CT scan, you will need to have these treatments pre-authorised.

Who can submit the claim ?

You and your Vet must complete the claim form, however we will accept the claim form from either you or your Vet. The payee of the claim can also be you or your Vet. If you are the payee of the claim, you must have paid your Vet and be able to provide a receipt .

Is this your first claim?

If this is your first ever claim we will require some further details about your horse (see claim form). We may also require a copy of your Horse's passport and vetting certificate. If you have attended multiple Vets with your horse, we will contact your previous vets for you.

Other ways to claim

If you need to have your Horse's treatment pre-authorised, please complete the equine claim form, but instead of providing an itemised invoice, please provide an itemised estimate instead. We will require the same level of paperwork as with a regular claim. We will endeavour to prioritise pre-authorisation claims, however we will require all requested documentation before a decision can be made.

What you can’t claim for:

Pre-existing conditions. This is any sign of illness, injury, or behavioural issue that began before your policy started.
Conditions that began or showed symptoms before your policy started are considered pre-existing. Conditions that arise after your policy exclusion period ends are covered as long as the policy remains active.

The cost of routine or preventative horse care, such as vaccinations and check-ups.

Claims FAQ

The first claim requires a full clinical history since ownership, your horse’s passport (including ID pages, microchip number and all vaccination pages) and a vetting certificate if you had a vetting carried out. If you do not have these documents to hand when you submit your claim, we will request them when we assess your claim which may delay the processing of your claim whilst we obtain them.

How long the claim takes to process will depend on the level of documentation we require from you and your Vet. First time claims can take longer to process as we may need to request clinical history from multiple veterinary practices. In cases where sufficient clinical history is not available, we may need to contact your Vet for additional information. We will however keep you updated throughout the claims process and notify you if we have requested any information or documentation from your Vet.

Fixed excess

This is the amount that you must pay towards veterinary treatment and complementary treatment received during each period of insurance. The fixed amount is applied once per period of insurance for the veterinary treatment your horse receives. You may only increase your excess at time of renewal.

Co-insurance

This is the percentage that you must pay towards the cost of veterinary treatment and complementary treatment received during each period of insurance and is applied per claim. The percentage amount is calculated on the amount left after the fixed excess is deducted. The co-insurance percentage cannot be changed.
